125 Years of Cantina Kurtatsch: A Special Evening Celebrating Our Motto "With United Forces"

On May 13, 2025, we marked a major milestone in our journey: 125 years of Cantina Kurtatsch. Nearly 300 guests joined us for an evening full of meaningful conversations, cherished memories—and a real sense of togetherness.

A Legacy of Unity

What has always set Cantina Kurtatsch apart since our founding in 1900 is our strong spirit of unity. In his opening speech, our president Andreas Kofler looked back on key moments in our history—from the cooperative’s early years shaped by the First World War, the phylloxera outbreak, and economic hardship, to the turning point that followed: a move away from quantity toward quality and a deep focus on expressing our unique terroir. That belief still shapes everything we do, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. A key milestone in this journey was the 1988 debut of our Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva FREIENFELD—still one of our most iconic wines. Around that time, we began introducing barrique barrels and started to rethink our vineyards, ensuring that each grape variety found its ideal location: Vineyard by Vineyard. Wine by wine. Over the past two decades, this vision has guided our development: new wines were created, our brand identity sharpened, and our winery expanded—all to showcase the incredible potential of our vineyards, which range from 220 to 900 meters above sea level.

None of this would have been possible without the close-knit bond, shared responsibility, and mutual trust that define our cooperative. That’s the solid foundation that has made long-term growth possible. Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who has helped shape this journey—our members and their families, our current and former board members, and our dedicated team.

Our efforts were also recognized by Mayor Andreas Anegg and Provincial Councilor for Tourism and Agriculture, Luis Walcher. In their speeches, they highlighted the important role Cantina Kurtatsch plays—not just in the local community, but in the Alto Adige wine scene as a whole.

Memorable Encounters and a Sense of Familiarity

We were especially happy to welcome such a diverse crowd: representatives from politics, agriculture, wine and tourism, along with journalists, sommeliers—and of course, our members, their families, and our entire team. Many familiar faces from Kurtatsch were among them, a clear sign of how deeply rooted our winery is in the heart of the village.

As the evening turned into a relaxed barbecue with live music by “Bartherapie,” there was, naturally, no shortage of good wine. In our "Taste Terroir" tasting room, guests could enjoy a selection of aged vintages—each bottle telling a part of our story.

With United Forces

125 years is more than just a number. It’s a testament to resilience, community, the courage to embrace change—and to generations of hard work. Our anniversary celebration was a vibrant reflection of everything Cantina Kurtatsch stands for: connection, unity, and a shared journey. To all who joined us, and to everyone who’s been part of our story since 1900—thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Together since 1900.
