VENTIS & FLUVIA: New Names, Clearer Focus

With the 2024 vintage, a total of 86 additional geographical units (Unità Geografiche Aggiuntive, UGA) have been established for the Alto Adige DOC designation. In addition to the name of the geographical unit (Unità Geografica Aggiuntiva, or UGA), the labels now also feature the UGA symbol Alto Adige clearly identifying them as wines from a geographical unit. As pioneering winery of the region – with nine UGA wines from eight Additional Geographical Units – we’re especially excited about this step forward!

To distinguish even more clearly between the wines from a geographical unit and wines with a brand name, we’ve taken a clear and consistent step and made changes to the names and packaging of two wines in the TERROIR line. KIRCHHÜGEL Cabernet Riserva will no longer be produced. Taking its place is the new VENTIS Cabernet Franc Riserva, available from now on. FRAUENHÜGEL Lagrein Riserva will be replaced by FLUVIA Lagrein Riserva

Since December, the VENTIS Cabernet Franc Riserva is available. The name “Ventis”, derived from the latin word for wind, refers to the Ora del Garda, the cooling afternoon breeze, as well as to the evening downdrafts descending from the mountain massif above Kurtatsch, ventilating the grapes and giving VENTIS its characteristic alpine freshness. Our Lagrein Riserva, previously known as “Frauenhügel,” will carry the new name FLUVIA (derived from the Latin "fluvius", meaning river), a reference to the alluvial soils shaped by rivers in our Lagrein vineyards. Alongside our SONNTALER Vernatsch, these three wines represent the three defining elements of our terroir: wind, water, and sun.

This new identity is also reflected visually: each label now features a symbol representing one of these elements.

Detailed information is available in the video interview with our president Andreas Kofler!
