Vitae 2026: 3× 4 VITI for TRES, FREIENFELD & BRENNTAL
We are delighted to receive three top awards from Vitae, the prestigious wine guide of the Italian Sommelier Association (AIS): our top red wines TRES 2018, FREIENFELD Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva 2022 and BRENNTAL Merlot Riserva 2022 were each awarded 4 VITI.
A strong confirmation of our commitment to crafting terroir-driven wines – and of our focused work with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon in Kurtatsch.
The varieties find ideal conditions in the geographical unit (UGA) Brenntal, located north of the village of Kurtatsch and counted among the warmest UGAs (up to 40°C/104°F) in Alto Adige. The vines on these steep slopes with its intensive sunshine grow on red, sandy loam for the Merlot and gravelly dolomitic-limestone soils for Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. In the evening, the grapes are cooled by fresh fall winds. This unique terroir gives our wines from Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon its Alpine character. No wonder that the varieties have found their ideal home here for decades!
