Concept of UGA classification: Additional Geographical Units (UGA) represent specific winegrowing areas characterized by common geographical, weather, and soil conditions within the larger designation of origin Alto Adige DOC. With the 2024 vintage, 86 geographical units were defined that qualify for the designation UGA, providing clear definition and legal protection. For each geographical unit, one to a maximum of five grape varieties were defined which, when cultivated within the respective UGA, may be vinified as an UGA wine and labeled with the name of the site and the UGA symbol Alto Adige. The grapes must be 100% sourced from a single UGA, and yields are reduced by up to 25% compared to standard DOC limits. The UGA symbol Alto Adige clearly identifies designated wines from a geographical unit in Alto Adige.
